Educational System in Panama

Panama's education system is based on principles enshrined in the 1972 Constitution. The system focuses on providing free and compulsory education for people between the ages of four and eighteen in public schools. The main objective is the personal and social development of the individual through the generation and promotion of knowledge.

The Panamanian education system is divided into three levels:

General Basic Education: Covers eleven years and includes preschool, primary, and secondary school.

Secondary Education: Follows basic education.

University Education: The final level of education.

At the basic education level, students are taught subjects such as science, mathematics, English, social studies, art, and technology. University programs, on the other hand, are designed to meet new demands in sectors such as maritime, scientific, ecological, telecommunications, and the internet.

The Panamanian education system is based on a unique concept that fosters self-understanding and self-respect, allowing students to interact positively with their social, cultural, and natural environments.  The goal of the system is to provide students with the knowledge necessary to develop in an integral way, including "learning to be", "learning to do", "learning to learn" and "learning to live together".

The basic education system in Panama is characterized by being democratic, scientific and constructivist.
